Peewee Girls Griffins take Bronze in Centre Wellington Tournament
This past weekend was history in the making. For the first time ever, a Gloucester Griffins Girl's team represented the association and the city in an OLA tournament. The Peewee Girl's team travelled to Guelph to compete in the Centre Wellington Women and Girl's Tournament June 11th to 13th. Over the weekend, the girls played 4 games in just 24 hours and their skills and experience improved steadily from game to game. Although much less experienced than their competition, the heart and determination that they put forward was admirable. In the few moments between games, the girls were able to relax together as a team in the swimming pool and in the mall. The team gained some very valuable experience from the competition and will carry that experience forward as they prepare to represent the GLA again at the Provincials in early August.

Bantam/Midget Girls Griffins win big!
Earl Armstrong was abuzz with excitement as the Bantam/Midget Girls Griffins defeated the Kahnawake Mohawks 2-1 on Wednesday night. The score was back and forth starting with a Griffins goal but the Mohawks tied it up in the second period. The game winning goal came mid way through the third period and the Griffins held on for the victory in impressive style. Way to go girls, way to go GRIFFINS!

Hi everyone, I attended the Girls Minor Box Lacrosse council meeting this past weekend and received more information. The Girls teams will play zone games, "fun days", 2 tournaments and provincials. They will have 2 practices a week to go along with the games.
Zone games consist of playing the other associations within our Zone 5 area. Zone 5 includes, Nepean, Kemptville, Brockville, Kingston, Akwesasne, Khanawake, and Cornwall. We are not sure how many other associations will have girls teams at this time but we are hopeful that at least 3 others will.
Fun Days are associations will host 2 or 3 other teams from outside the area to play 2 or 3 games in a day. Other associations that said they would host or come to ours are Peterborough, Whitby, and London so far.
Provincials are during the first week of Aug. and usually run 2 or 3 days. The dates for Provincials are listed on the OLA website.
We currently have enough players to field a Girls Peewee team and are looking to get more for the other levels.
We are also still looking for head coaches for the teams. You do not need to have Lacrosse experience just coaching experience as we will have a mentoring program for you. Lacrosse is allot like Basketball in the way teams play.
For more information please feel free to contact me directly.
Thank you
Stephane Collins,
President, GLA
